How to fix valve leaks in fire sprinklers

Apr 17, 2025

Diagnosis and solution of valve leakage is a key link to ensure the normal operation of industrial equipment. Leakage may be caused by many factors, the most common of which is the wear of the sealing surface. As the valve is used for a long time, the sealing surface is eroded and corroded by the medium, and the surface gradually becomes rough, so that it cannot form an effective seal, which eventually leads to leakage of the medium. In addition, the aging of the material should not be ignored. The valve material will gradually lose its original performance during long-term use, and the sealing ability will decrease accordingly.

Improper installation is also an important factor causing leakage. Incorrect installation position of the valve or failure to tighten the fasteners as required will cause leakage during the operation of the valve. Operational errors may also cause valve damage. For example, excessive force when opening or closing the valve will cause deformation or damage to the valve components. Some media are also extremely corrosive, causing erosion of the valve material, thereby causing leakage.

Targeted solutions must be taken for valve leakage caused by different reasons. For the wear of the sealing surface, it can be solved by repairing, fine grinding and coloring inspection of the static sealing surface. Use professional grinding tools to finely process the sealing surface to restore its flatness and finish, and then use coloring inspection to ensure that the sealing surface meets the requirements of use. If the sealing surface is severely worn and cannot be repaired, it is necessary to replace the sealing surface or the entire valve component.

When dealing with leaks caused by material aging, it is crucial to choose corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant materials for replacement. In the material selection process, factors such as the nature of the medium, operating temperature and pressure must be fully considered to ensure that the performance of the new material meets the actual use requirements.

If the leak is caused by improper installation, the valve needs to be reinstalled. The installation position and direction of the valve should be carefully checked to ensure that it can be opened and closed normally. At the same time, all fasteners must be tightened, and a torque wrench should be used to ensure that the preload meets the specified standards. For damage caused by operating errors, operators should follow the correct operating procedures to avoid excessive force. When opening and closing the valve, slow and smooth operation should be maintained to prevent damage to the valve components.

For the problem of medium corrosion, an anti-corrosion coating can be applied to the surface of the valve to improve its corrosion resistance. At the same time, regularly check the corrosion of the valve and clean the corrosion products on the valve surface in time to prevent the corrosion from getting worse. In addition, regular maintenance and care of the valve, including cleaning the inner and outer surfaces of the valve, checking whether the fasteners are loose, and lubricating the transmission parts, are important measures to extend the service life of the valve. Through the maintenance and management of these systems, the risk of valve leakage can be effectively reduced to ensure the safe and stable operation of the equipment.
